The market

Why hvac is its own problem

HVAC demand arrives in two spikes a year and disappears in between. The work that wins January has to be done in October, because a page published during a cold snap will not rank until the snap is over. Mississauga is also one of the most contested home service markets in Ontario, with agency-backed incumbents in every category.

Where they started

On the first geo-grid scan, HVAC-Group ranked in the top three at only eight points across Mississauga and did not rank at all at twenty. Competitors held the centre of the city.

The work was local SEO for service-area and storefront businesses and Business Profile optimization and management, and you can compare it with the campaigns behind these numbers. See SEO for hvac businesses and SEO in Mississauga for the wider picture.

The work

What we actually did

  • Category and service audit on the Business Profile, then a full rebuild
  • Separate pages for furnace, air conditioning, heat pump and maintenance work
  • Seasonal content published ahead of demand rather than during it
  • Review generation that took the profile from 225 to 263 reviews
  • Monthly geo-grid tracking to direct the work toward the weakest areas

How it ran, month by month

Weeks 1 to 3Geo-grid baseline across Mississauga, profile audit, and a category test. The primary category was wrong, which alone was costing visibility.
Weeks 4 to 10Separate pages for furnace repair, furnace replacement, air conditioning, heat pumps and maintenance plans.
Months 3 to 6Seasonal content published ahead of demand, review velocity lifted from 225 to 263, and citations rebuilt.
Months 7 to 9Grid coverage pushed outward from the centre of the city into Erin Mills, Meadowvale and Port Credit.

What changed, measured the same way both times

Same keywords, same grid, same accounts. Nothing here is a different measurement method dressed up as progress.

Geo-grid scan for an HVAC company in Mississauga with 77 of 93 points ranking in the top three
Map coverage

77 of 93 grid points in the top three

A geo-grid scan checks your ranking from dozens of points spread across your service area and plots every one. Green is a top three position, amber is four to ten, red is eleven or worse. It is the only honest way to see how far your local visibility actually reaches, and it is usually the first thing that shocks an owner who thought they ranked fine.

What we learned

The part worth stealing

Ranking at the centre of Mississauga was never the problem. The money was in the edges of the service area, and we would not have seen that without scanning a grid rather than checking one rank.

The difference showed up in the phone log before it showed up in any report.

Where they show up now

Google first, and everywhere else too

The same foundations that win the map pack also feed Bing, Apple Maps and the AI assistants, because they all read the same signals.

Google Search

The bulk of Canadian search still runs through Google, and it is where most of your organic leads will come from.

Google Maps and the map pack

The top three local listings. For most service businesses this sends more calls than the website does.

Bing and Microsoft Copilot

Close to one in ten Canadian searches happens on Bing, which is higher than most owners assume. It also feeds Copilot answers.

Apple Maps

Every iPhone that asks for directions starts here. Apple Business Connect is free and almost nobody claims it properly.

Yelp and directories

Still ranks for plenty of service searches, and the details on it feed what other platforms believe about you.

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity

AI assistants answer questions by reading and citing the open web. Being consistent, crawlable and quotable is what gets you named.
